Our hiking vacation in the Jura Upland in Poland takes travelers on a 3-day journey through the higher and more challenging part of the Trail of the Eagles’ Nests. This self guided hiking package starts at Rabsztyn Castle and ends at Apteka Hill. During the three days of walking, the trail passes through forests, cliffs, caves, valleys, rivers, lakes, and the highlight of the trail: medieval fortresses and castles. This section of the Trail of the Eagles’ Nests allows travelers to enjoy a short, accessible hiking vacation with good accommodations and dramatic views.
This is the middle section of The Trail of the Eagles’ Nests. The complete trail crosses the Polish Jura between Kraków and Częstochowa (or in the opposite direction) through limestone cliffs and rocky hills, small villages, ruins, medieval castles, and dramatic rock formations such as “The Eye” in Okiennik and the slopes of Birow Hill. Each day brings hikes up hills and valleys, and each evening offers rest and quality time, making the long journey challenging but also particularly rewarding.
The service is designed for travelers looking for a challenge without having to deal with logistics. The package offers a convenient way to experience the more dramatic part of this amazing hiking trail, with a pre-planned and well-organized itinerary.

Today, you will set out from Rabsztyn Castle near Olkusz, once a famous silver mining town. At the beginning of the day, the trail goes up to the castle, which stands atop a rocky hill. The impressive structure has been restored to represent its former glory. We recommend wandering around the castle and enjoying the spectacular views of the Lesser Poland region.
Your next stop is Jaroszowice, a small village near Ostra Hill (437 m a.s.l.). In the village, you can visit the local church, which is considered sacred and serves as a stop on the way for Polish pilgrims walking to Jasna Góra.
From here, the trail continues along forest paths and between villages. You will pass by the Biała Przemsza River, an important landmark once a border between imperial powers. The next river that you will cross will be the Tarnówka River. You will complete the hike not far from the ruins of Bydlin Castle.
Daily Inclusion:
Transportation from Olkusz to the start of the trail
Accommodation: Countryside Accommodation

Today you will start your hike near Bydlin Castle. It will be a day full of adventures and impressive sights, including the highest point of the Polish Jura Upland.
For the first few kilometers, the trail climbs towards Bydlin Hill, and from there it continues to Bysznik Hill with its caves and impressive viewpoint.
The next stop on the trail will be Pilcza Castle in Smoleń, where we recommend climbing to the observation tower. From the castle you will walk to Pilica, a beautiful town with a Neo-Renaissance palace, a great market square and a historical well at its center.
From Pilica, the trail continues towards Janowski Hill, the highest point in the Jura Upland (516 meters above sea level). From here, the trail descends to the village of Ogrodzieniec, bypassing Ogrodzieniec Castle, the largest and most impressive of the “Eagle’s Nests”. The enormous ruins of the castle spread out across the rocky plateau below Janowski Hill.

Good morning! Today you will set out from Ogrodzieniec, leaving behind the impressive ruins of Ogrodzieniec Castle. We recommend starting the day with a short visit to the castle before continuing on the trail. The trail first leads to Birów Hill, a steep limestone hill topped by a (restored) medieval wooden fortress.
After descending from Birów Hill, you will continue to a 1944 fortification complex, a reminder that this area was fortified even after the Middle Ages. From there, continue to Okiennik Wielki (a huge rock formation with an open eye/window), considered one of the most famous rocks in the Polish Jura Upland. From here, the trail continues to Bąkowiec Castle, which towers above the village of Morsko.
Daily Inclusion:
Transportation from the end of the route to Zwiercie
Meals: Breakfast

An elevation gain of maximum 1,100m and maximum 1,100m Elevation Loss. Navigation may not always be obvious, and hikers should be comfortable in navigating in more confusing terrain. These hikes are best suited to regular hikers with solid fitness and prior experience in mountainous terrain.

Being upfront: we secure your next Outdoor Vacation through real mountain huts, mostly family-owned B&Bs, rural lodging, and local transportation providers, rather than mass tourism and an instant-inventory system, so there’s a small chance your exact dates aren’t available. If that happens, we’ll offer the closest alternative dates first, and if none suit you, your deposit is fully refunded.

The price includes all-in-one trip app, which serves as your navigation tool, offline maps with real-time, turn-by-turn directions guide you along the exact route, so you always know where you are and where to go next.
If you have your own navigation device, you can download the GPX file before departure and use your preferred tools instead.
There’s no guide walking beside you, but the app plus your 1:1 live video briefing before departure cover everything you’d otherwise rely on a guide for.
That said, self-guided travel still calls for a basic comfort with being outdoors and following a route. Check this package’s difficulty rating to see what level this is, and if you’re still not sure, just ask our team before booking.
Yes. Every map, route, and turn-by-turn direction is downloaded to your phone before you set out, along with your accommodation and transfer details, food recommendations, trail notes, and other good-to-know info, so none of it needs an internet or phone connection to work.
Navigation itself relies on GPS signal, which comes from satellites, not your phone network, so it works even where there’s no cell coverage or wifi at all. You’ll only need an internet connection once, beforehand, to download everything.
Accommodation is included in our self guided packages price, we book and secure every stay on your itinerary.
On rare occasions, in some of the more remote places we operate, mass tourism companies simply don’t reach, a particular night may require cash payment on-site instead of being prepaid. This doesn’t mean it’s not included, we’ve still arranged and confirmed it for you, only the payment method for that stay is different.
This will always be clearly flagged in that day’s information, along with any other details specific to that stay, and repeated as a note in the price includes section, so you know exactly what to expect well before you arrive.
Yes, breakfast is included on most of our self guided packages price, and full board in a few select regions, check this tour’s inclusions section for the exact arrangement on this trip.
Beyond what’s included, we deliberately leave meals up to you.
Food is almost always available in or near your overnight stays. On some trails, you’ll also find shops and supply points during the day along the route, so you’re free to choose what to eat, try local places, or bring your own, rather than being locked into a fixed dining plan.
You’ll know exactly where in advance, these locations are marked in your app, and we walk through them with you on your 1:1 live video briefing before departure.
Check this package’s difficulty rating above for daily distance, elevation, and terrain details, that’s the clearest way to judge whether this route matches your fitness level.
If you’re between tiers or unsure whether your fitness matches this specific route, our team can walk you through what a typical day looks like before you book.
See “Book in Minutes, Not Weeks” above for how your deposit secures your dates and how confirmation works.
After confirmation, the remaining balance is due no later than 60 days before departure unless other payment conditions are mentioned in the particular package details, payable by card or bank transfer. Any bank transaction fees are the traveler’s responsibility.
The deposit is non-refundable once your booking is confirmed. Cancellation policies can vary by booking, the exact terms and dates that apply to you will be shown during your booking process.
Date changes may be possible if all local suppliers agree, subject to a per-day fee.
We recommend arranging cancellation insurance as soon as you book, this protects you in case your plans change later.
For full details, see our cancellation policy.
You travel with your own group, whether that’s just you, a partner, or friends. You’re never merged with strangers into a shared group.
That said, you may cross paths with other travelers on the same trail or staying at the same accommodations, and trail shuttles are sometimes shared between different groups. If you happen to make good company along the way, that’s entirely up to you, but you’re never assigned to travel as part of a larger group.
Yes, solo travelers are always welcome, some of our own team members are known for their solo travels. We do our best to make sure solo travelers get the best price possible, and we treat solo travelers and bigger groups with the same great hospitality.
Every booking page shows a solo traveler pricing tier. All our booking processes are clear from the start, so you can see the exact price for your group size, including solo, before booking, no hidden fees, no guesswork.
No, you don’t need expensive or specialized outdoor gear. What matters most is comfortable shoes suited to sport and outdoor use, light clothing, and a manageable backpack, nothing bulky or overloaded.
Since your accommodations are secured and food and water are accessible along the way, you don’t need to carry much. Some packages also include luggage transfer, in which case you’ll have even less to carry day to day.
We provide a clear packing list for this package, and walk through anything gear-related during your 1:1 live video briefing before departure.
Send us your question and one of our experts will get back to you personally, no obligation to book.
